Workings
The 80:20 Principal I have been looking at this principal with the aim of getting more efficiency in my learning and doing. The basics of it are that roughly eighty percent of effects come from 20 percent of causes. Understanding of this can help to breakdown your activities and see where this is happening and where it can be used for positive effect, focusing on the activities that provide the most benefit. I am reading about this in Richard Koch's book and what I am learning about is really feeding into my thoughts that are coming from doing The Artist Way and to my diploma approach as a whole. I'll upload my notes from this soon. |
This is a growing list recommended sites I have used for inspiration and information
This site is a really encouraging find. It is based on permaculture principals, and basically full of information for no charge, someone using their excess resources (time, knowledge) to put back into the bigger system. Very useful to me in terms of seeing a new site for permaculture that embraces media. They also use facebook updating their wall everyday with masses of really informative and useful links. Using the facebook site for its best quality! |
Observation
I have been observing what exists out there already in terms of websites to get ahead in ideas of user experince and good design of a site.

Can User Experience Be Beautiful? An Analysis Of Navigation In Portfolio Websites By Justin Mifsud
It looks at web design in regards to portfolios and asks if they can be usable and beautiful at the same time. I am interested in this question in particular because it reminds me of doing art portfolios and trying to make them dynamic, almost performative in nature. Also in terms of permaculture, and the mixing of information or science with creativity in design and enjoyment, to make a website that reflects this....

80:20 Notes, extract
I’ve been thinking on 80:20, it’s been good to read a bit of the book and then brood on the questions, the answers pop up at strange times. I realized one answer to the question “when do you work your best?” It’s obvious really but I avoided it…it’s when I HAVE to, when there’s no other option, when the deadline is upon me. And I do tend to do ok at these points, why..because my mind is fully on the task in hand and cant deviate. At other times it’s not that there are more fun things to be doing but I see these things more as work, even if it’s something I really enjoy. Not certain at the moment why this is, but I need to work with this nature not against it. But how?
I cant make up deadlines because I know the truth and will bend them!
Perhaps I need to try to make sure deadlines are more spread apart from each other so that I can have space to put my all into each thing that comes up, and make sure I have room around each deadline to put my all into it? For example this weekend I have to finish my PR, get drawings done amongst other commitments and social things too, could I have organized this better?
Another method may be to have people involved with my tasks, then I have to stick to a deadline, for example, “I’ll teach you how to do this when I’ve learnt”, or “why don’t you come and see my design, drawing, project etc on Friday?”. I discovered this when I had to get my prezi done for Matthew, because he was expecting it I HAD to do it, and so I had to learn the new skills to do so very fast, so that’s win win!
