Personal
I think also by doing this I can give something to people I like. It is the opposite of the allotment in the way that it is pretty much zone 1.5! So much closer, which I realised was massively important, to the well-being of a garden, proximity.
Professional
I think it is a good project to have on my portfolio, as small scale projects are more fitting for a lifestyle like mine right now. They- can be implemented quite quickly, they don’t need to cost much, people will trust me with a temporary-seeming structure, and I think it is relevant to the urban life I seem to be in right now. I think I need to push my technical permaculture knowledge a bit more, for example I could have learned a lot more about self watering systems. To be honest though, they baffle me more than excite right now, I’m not sure why that is.
Project
I found the design cycle a lot easier to go through, because I’ve really understood through practice (since re-doing the design for the allotment) just how easy placing elements is once you’ve got the sector and zones, and how layering is of such importance. I had no idea! Literally, tracing paper has changed how I design. I’ve really got to grips with photoshop too, by using my 80:20 principal and waiting until there was something artistic that I really wanted to do, I taught myself loads in a few hours. The next step is to try to do opaque layering on PS to replace tracing paper, and make it look a little more professional- and artistic, I think designs can be works of art in themselves.
